FAQ

If my child is an only child, can I pair them up with another family?

If you would like to pair up with another family let the scheduler know and we will do our best to find a mutual day, activity, and time that will work for all parties involved. Please allow enough time to find a good match.

Can I do a one-time trip, or can it be something ongoing?

Either of these are options! If you are interested in something ongoing (four times a month, every other Monday, etc), purchasing three or more trips at a time will automatically apply a 20% discount. If you prefer to purchase a one-time day trip, that is an option as well.

Are scholarships available?

Yes! 15% of every trip purchased goes into a scholarship fund for low-income families. Individuals or businesses also have the option to purchase a trip for a student. Please contact us if you need a scholarship or know of someone who does.

What happens if there's inclement weather?

Trips will run rain or shine unless the weather poses a safety hazard. In that case, you will receive full refunds for the trip purchase or can apply the fees to reschedule a trip. Please prepare for all possible weather, and dress appropriately.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to receive a full refund. Between 24-48 hours you will receive a 50% refund. Less than 24 hours is a 30% refund.

What is the safety Protocol?

A number of precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of your child. We recognize that no outdoor adventure is without potential risks, but we also appreciate the importance of taking calculated risks. By making sure that guides have the necessary training to facilitate these outdoor activities we can make these risks as safe as possible. In addition, carrying safety equipment such as wilderness first aid kits will prepare guides for most potential situations. Before departure, you will know where your child is going. It will be within an hour drive and cell phone service will be available unless otherwise stated.

what precautions are you taking for covid-19?

All transportation and equipment will be thoroughly sanitized between trips. In addition, participants will be required to bring their own food and water, to avoid contamination. Temperature and health screenings will be completed prior to leaving on the trip. COVID precautions will be addressed on a family-by-family basis. If participants are from the same household and social circle, precautions will be different than if The Joy of Discovery Project is pairing families.

What happens if my child gets sick?

If your child gets sick on the trip, parents will be contacted, and responsible for picking up their child from their adventure location.

Can I join my child on their adventure?

Absolutely! If you are interested in coming on the trip with us, please book through the website for the number of participants attending (including yourself) and email the guide to let her know you will be joining.

Can we meet Hannah before the trip?

Yes! If you are interested in meeting before the trip please send Hannah an email, and she will schedule a time that works for both parties. There will be a small $25 consultation fee for her time and travel.

What kind of vehicle/transportation will my child be in?

If the trip you have chosen included transportation, your child will be in a 4 wheel drive all-terrain Jeep. Parents will need to provide any necessary car seats that may be needed.

Where is the joy of discovery project located?
